Learning More about V Connect – Options of Advance Pay Service for Inmates
The Advance Pay Service is a jail phone service option for inmates enabling the family and friends of prisoners to receive collect calls from inmates in jail. Such calls can be accessed by families in situations when they are not able to receive the calls from the inmate facility on their telephone due to some restrictions on that number, as well as in cases such as:
- The suspension of an account, resulting from reaching the monthly limit permitting by Value Added Communications (VAC) for telephone billing to a local telephone company.
- Restrictions or blocks placed by the telephone company on collect calls.
- No current billing contract from VAC with the local telephone company.
In the above cases, it is possible for inmates to take advantage of the Advance Pay account option offered by V Connect. This allows inmates’ families and friends to receive calls from them by paying a certain amount. These calls can be made through V Connect even if they were previously denied from the correctional institute. The family must set up a prepaid account and as they accept collect calls from the inmate, the cost of the call, along with any applicable taxes, is deducted from the prepaid account.
There are many ways of making such payments to V Connect. Users can pay by debit card or credit card. They also accept cashier’s checks and money orders. However, these payment methods incur a fixed transaction fee, which is separate from any MoneyGram charges.
Regarding the cost of the call, it depends on the location of the phone number relative to the location of the correctional facility. Even if the inmate is transferred to another location or jail, the funds can be transferred to that location by V Connect services. However, V Connect services muse be acceptable in that facility in order for the funds to be transferred. Otherwise, the balance amount that is present in the prepaid account is refunded. The account should not be left stagnant, as any inactive account where no calls are made or received for 180 days will incur a fee of $4.95. This fee will be deducted on a monthly basis until the entire balance is exhausted or until calling activity resumes.Don't miss our guide to making Jail Phone Calls.
